“To whom can I speak and give warning? Who will listen to me? Their ears are closed so they cannot hear. The word of the Lord is offensive to them; they find no pleasure in it…the prophets are but wind and the word is not in them; so let what they say be done to them…The prophets prophesy lies, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it this way. But what will you do in the end?”
Jeremiah 6:10; 5:13, 31
When the prophetic word is diminished in our midst, what happens to God’s people?
There is a second danger - that of the misuse of the prophetic word. Instead of the Word of the Lord, the prophetic word is used by some leaders to control, manipulate, or deceive. Either scenario limits our capacity to live holy lives and grow in a healthy expression of the fear of the Lord.
Can the Spirit of God still confront us with our sins?
Are we listening?
Or has the Word become offensive to us as well?
Even when the majority of God’s people love human-centered religion, God still calls us to humble ourselves and repent.
What is the Holy Spirit inviting us to do today?
“Lord Jesus, you are the Living Word, and I have never needed you more than today. My heart and ears are open to your voice and word, for your glory.”
